“Senator Santorum and Speaker Gingrich, they are the very Republicans who acted like Democrats, and when Republicans act like Democrats, they lose,” said Mitt Romney today in Atlanta, according to a statement e-mailed by his campaign.
“In Newt Gingrich’s case, he had to resign,” he added. “In Rick Santorum’s case, he lost by the biggest margin of any Senate incumbent since 1980. Again, borrowing, spending and earmarking is not a good combination if you’re a Republican and not a good combination in my view for America.”
When Republicans act like Democrats?
Are you sure he wasn't being self referential?
Regardless, Romeny obviously has no expectations that any of Gingrich's or Santorums supporters will be voting for him in the fall.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseLOL, this is the new attack line from Romney?? The same guy who proudly voted for Paul Tsongas, pushed cap & trade and enacted government run healthcare before ObamaCare was even a thought?
Can you spell D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-I-O-N??
At this pace, I am starting to doubt Romney will win a single state on Super Tuesday.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseRemarkable. This is coming from a man who won the highest elected state office in one of the bluest of the blue states on the map.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseOne thing's for sure - If Rick had done like Romney and bailed on the party and taken the easy way out by not seeking a new term, he would have been the conservative frontrunner in 2008 hands down. No Huckabee or Thompson needed. And Romney in 2008 would have been akin to Rudy.
Look for Rick to lay this smack down on Romney someday soon. Who retires from the governorship after one term (especially when you claim you did such a great job) - EXCEPT the person who used the office as a checkbox for the Presidency prize and knew he could not have another loss on his record.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseExactly which part of the GOP primary electorate was this line of attack focus-grouped to attract? Is Romney trying to shift Santorum support to Ron Paul?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI'm starting to get really sick of this pompous jerk and his smear machine. Does anyone not see through this?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseRomney better be careful with those cries about raising the debt ceiling for that sounds a lot like the Left of that time, AND raising the debt ceiling was seen a little differently when we were fighting the Iraq War than under the Obama regime.
This is still a GOP primary - and I imagine the debate when Rick says 'Yes, we had troops overseas fighting for the liberty of all Americans back home Governor, your children and mine. So I voted to raise the debt ceiling to make sure their support was not compromised by partisan politics. Governor? Are you saying on this stage you would have voted not to fund our troops?
Romney won't know what hit him.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWow, Romney is just running an awful, awful campaign. He needs to make Conservatives like him more, not like Santorum less. Being from WI, I'm certainly not thrilled (to put it mildly) with Rick's stance on unions, but Romney is just a flat-out horrible candidate. I may be way off, but Santorum might be able to do well with Reagan Dems in the Midwest., due to his blue collar family history.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseTalk about a target rich environment! Rick could run the rest of his campaign on just highlighting the differences between himself and Romney regarding those statements alone.
Incidentally? Which candidate is spending like a drunken Democrat in order to buy the nomination? THAT'S THE GUY who we want to put in charge of managing the economy?
No thanks!
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThe biggest problem with this line is Romney is trying to win a GOP primary.
Does any Republican voter think of either Newt or Rick as guys that governed like Democrats when they were in office? How can this stick?
Of course not. In fact, a lot of the shock at Newt has been in the past few years with the Pelosi couch, attacks on Bain Capital and so forth in this race.
But governed like a Democrat and that's why he resigned?
Governed like a Democrat and that's why Rick lost in blue state PA?
Romney is overpaying his advisors

This statement is astounding in its complete lack of self-awareness. Romney is unelectable.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWow, just wow.
Whatever went sideways for Newt back in the day it wasn't him being a RINO,and as for Santorum's unfortunate loss, as another commentor points out, that's really something coming from a guy who knew he was a loser before his re-election race even began.
This is the worst failing of Romney as a candidate, he lacks warmth and yet he really stinks at being mean.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseInteresting comparisons.
Mitt Romney didn't run for a second term. Does that mean he's admitting he's LBJ?
