Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan, head of the Archdiocese of New York, has now publicly criticized the Obama administration’s new HHS mandate. Specifically, he has stated that the President Obama betrayed a commitment made to him weeks ago in a personal meeting. CBS reports:
Dolan said he met with the president weeks ago in the Oval Office to talk about the law. Dolan said the president gave his promise the provision would go away, but it hasn’t. “It seems to be at odds with very sincere assurances that he gave me, that he wanted to continue to work with the church in these endeavors and views and projects he shared a passionate interest in, so I can’t figure it out,” Dolan said.
“When I left the Oval Office, where I was very grateful for his invitation to be there, I left with high hopes. That nothing his administration would do would impede the good work that he admitted and acknowledged in the church,” Dolan said. “And I’m afraid I don’t have those sentiments of hope now.”
What, Biden and Pelosi were unavailable to lie to the future Cardinal's face?

And the scorpion promised the frog he wouldn't sting him as they crossed the river. The scorpion was very sincere that he shared the frogs interest in crossing the river without drowning.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseExactly. It's in the nature of the scorpion to sting; it's in the nature of the liberal to bring all things within the control of the state.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseNice! The Scorpion and the Frog.
It not only works as a metaphor; somehow it works visually for me as well.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseObama doesn't believe in keeping his word. He made a strict deal with McCain to stick to the public funds limit. Then when he decided the moment was right, he broke the deal. Thing was, he probably didn't need to; he probably would have won any way, and could have kept a sliver of integrity. But he peed it away.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseGee--Obama lied. Lied to a Cardinal--even. Go figure? Anyone believing anything Obama says is a fool.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseFirst Lesson: Obama Lies.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseHow does it feel to be used as a photo-op?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseSucker
Instead of making the provision go away, Obama told this poor naive fool what he wanted to hear so he'd go away. No doubt a tee time was coming up.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseAs a practicing conservative Catholic who loves my church, let me say that the ranks of the bishops are full of progressive useful idiots who have been abetting the Democrat Party in degrading the culture of this country.
I wonder if Archbishop Dolan also pretends to believe that Obama is not in favor of forcing recognition of gay marriage on his church as well?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIn other dramatic CBS revelations, the Cardinal-designate expresses shock that gambling is going on in casinos and surprise that bears defecate in our nation's timberland.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI sincerely pray that the US church leaders overcome their naivete and realize that this president is a wholly owned subsidiary of Planned Parenthood. It is where his first loyalty lies. Remember, he threatened to shut down the government over continuing federal funding for the organization. His first act in office was to rescind executive orders that restricted federal spending related to abortion. From first to last, this is a radically pro-abortion president.
In addition, I believe Obama is actually hostile to Christians, and especially Catholics. His misinterpretation of scripture as a talking point in support of his totalitarian beliefs is quite telling, but this is then followed by his actions, which demonstrate that he believes the government is the best arbiter of faith and morals.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseFool me once (no federal $$ for abortion in ObamaCare), shame on you.
Fool me twice (no conscience violation), shame on me.

I'm shocked that rattlesnake betrayed me!
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWhen Archbishop Dolan becoming Cardinal Dolan at the end of next week, I think we may see that there's more than one "bully pulpit".
From what I've seen of Dolan, he'd be even better in a debate with Obama than Newt.
