Santorum Reaches for the Finish Line

At CPAC, Rick Santorum right now is making what I think is his most compelling argument for why he should be the Republican nominee.

(I wrote about this in “Mitt’s Anger Mismanagement” after the last debate.)

Senator Santorum’s argument is: President Obama will have more money, so money is not what is going to bring the GOP ticket to victory. “We’re not going to win with money. We’re going to win with ideas. We’re going to win with contrast. We’re going to win by making Barack Obama and his failed policies the issue in this race.”

His plea: Rally to me. The conservative base can be excited with me. And that can be contagious.

He just ended his speech emphasizing: “This is our watch” in America. It is a matter of  “honor” in these consequential times.

The speech, by the way, looked pretty darn presidential to me.

Not to be pedantic, but we will need a *little* bit of money if we are going to win. I mean, we're not going to win without it, right?

I thought his speech was angry and uninspiring.

Santorum's basic stump is Compassionate Conservatism Part 2. It failed the first time and it will fail the second.
