Santorum, Romney Virtually Tied

Text

Results from a Pew Research Center poll of Republicans and those leaning Republican: Rick Santorum (30 percent), Mitt Romney (28 percent), Newt Gingrich (17 percent), and Ron Paul (12 percent). More worrisome for Romney might be this statistic:

Three months ago, a slim majority (53%) of Republican and Republican-leaning voters said Mitt Romney was a strong conservative. Today, 42% see him this way, while the number who say he is not a strong conservative has jumped from 33% to 50%.

Among registered voters, Obama beat Santorum, 53 percent to 43 percent, and Romney, 52 percent to 44 percent.

UPDATE: Gallup is showing similar numbers: Romney is at 32 percent to Santorum’s 30 percent in today’s poll.
