Santorum, Romney Virtually Tied in Michigan

Results from a Rasmussen poll of likely GOP primary voters: Rick Santorum (35 percent), Mitt Romney (32 percent), Ron Paul (13 percent), and Newt Gingrich (11 percent). A PPP poll yesterday showed Santorum 15 points ahead in the Great Lakes state; the Rasmussen poll is sure to buoy the Romney campaign’s hopes that they can win the state.

As the "Obama Curtails Religious Freedom!!!" story continues to deflate (witness no breathless Corner pieces today), Santorum's numbers will take a hit as well. He can still pull out a squeaker if the "Romney to Auto Industry: Drop Dead" meme persists.

The problem for Romney is every squeaker emboldens the non-Romneys. He needs blowouts and he needs them fast.

Michigan is winner-take-all by Congressional district and proportional statewide (15% threshhold). Romney, Santorum and Ron Paul should all take some delegates here.

"He can still pull out a squeaker"

Never going to happen, since Santorum is opposed to pulling out, and condemns any activity involving squeakers.

Thank you. Try the veal and tip your waitresses.

Gov. Snyder's endorsement of Santorum would hurt Romney more that an endorsement of Romney would help Romney seems to be the only immediate truth in the Michigan race.

Romney needs to make his campaign about him ... doesn't every campaign need to identify reasons that make the candidate attractive? It can't just be the 'ole tie that binds' for Michigan voters.

Santorum's record isn't just what can be archived from his votes, it's also what we know of his time in the Senate from our own recall of him. He was a flame throwing, in your face Republican.

Great when you have your seat, but not so much the RSVP guaranteed to bring in the blue dog, 1980, progeny Democrats and Independents we want for a large mandate victory.

We have the chance not only to defeat Obama but to cast him down.
Keep your heads.

A more accurate headline for this post might read "Romney trails in home state."

"This whole idea of personal autonomy, well I don't think most conservatives hold that point of view. they have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do what they want to do, government should keep our taxes down, keep our regulations low, that we shouldn't get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn't get involved in cultural issues. ... Well, that is not how traditional conservatives view the world and I think most conservatives understand that individuals can't go it alone." - Rick Santorum

Here's the man for more government controlling every aspect of our lives. Congrats to the "true" conservative
