Breakfast in Kalamazoo

Text

Eating breakfast in a hotel lobby in Kalamazoo, Mich. (I am here as part of the www.RickBus.com press tour).

During breakfast, I’ve seen probably eight commercials from Team Romney calling Santorum a big spender and touting Romney’s “moral imperative to balance the budget.”

(I’ve seen two Santorum commercials, including one that touts tripling the child exemption.)

In spite of a less then impressive debate performance by Santorum and an avalanche of negative ads like these, new polls this morning taken after the CNN debate show it’s still a statistical tie: Romney up by three, within the margin of error. The ad campaign is making some difference: Tea-party voters are now split.

Santorum will need a huge intensity advantage to win. But the amazing thing is so far, he still could.
