My Bro’ Hambro

by Jay Nordlinger

Near the top of my “Oslo Journal” today, I have a note on C. J. Hambro, one of my favorite politicians. He was a Norwegian, a member of the Conservative party, who lived from 1885 to 1964. He spent more than 20 years on the Nobel committee. But he made his mark during the war. It was he who organized the flight of the royal family and others out of Oslo, as the Nazis were closing in. The party got away with about a half-hour to spare.

A reader writes to say that she spent her lunch hour reading Chapter One of Hambro’s (stirring) I Saw It Happen in Norway. She found it here. Gratis. You and I may have our complaints about the Internet, but it is still dazzling, and a godsend.
