Coburn on How Both Parties Bankrupted America

by Veronique de Rugy

This is a really great interview Senator Coburn of Oklahoma by Reason TV’s Nick Gillespie. For the last few weeks, the senator has been promoting his new book, The Debt Bomb: A Bold Plan to Stop Washington from Bankrupting Our Economy. I recommend the book; you will learn a lot of about government spending, waste, and the disconnect between Washington and the rest of America.

There are some great quotes from Coburn in the interview, but I think one of my favorite is his reminder that bond interest rates are extremely low, but that we shouldn’t see this as great news or as a sign that all is well. Rather, he explains, “We’re the best looking horse in the glue factory.”

He also notes, “both parties have equally participated in abandoning the limited role of the federal government.”

While the senator and I disagree on the role of government in addressing morality, I see him as one of the bravest guys out there fighting the fight for fiscal responsibility. Thus, I want to take this opportunity to thank him and his staff for their tireless commitment to cutting government spending and putting this country on more solid financial ground.
