On whether Republicans can still make use of President Obama’s “you didn’t build that” remark:
Yes, because it was the ultimate gaffe. It betrayed what he really believes. And in context you can see [it] because he elaborates on this. It isn’t one thing that slipped out. I think the RNC, Romney ought to run… the whole context, run the whole thing in an endless loop until the end of time or at least until the election, which seems about the same length of time.
But it is so damming. For Obama to go in that [new] ad and say: what I meant is we have to support — we have to get behind — success. I would play that and then just show him beginning his ["you didn't build that"] remarks [by] mocking success and saying: “You think you’re so smart, that it was your intelligence? You think it was your hard work?”
In other words, he was saying — in introducing the whole ["you didn't build that"] idea — that if you succeed, it wasn’t your brains or your sweat. It was what? It was government.
That’s what he believes. It’s the essence of his philosophy of society — that it is government centered, whereas the conservative, Republican idea essentially is individual-centered. It is a contrast that is… very clear. And because it’s so revealing, Obama has to keep pretending he said something else.
He didn’t. All you have to do is watch the tape, read the transcript.
On a proposed UN arms convention that could restrict civilian weapons:
Like all these other treaties we have pursued that liberals are intent on getting, worldwide universal arms control, some chemical, biological, and nuclear proliferation treaties, they’re either worthless or they’re negative. And the reason is they have a single effect. The good guys, the civilized countries who sign it, they will abide by it, but you don’t have to worry about those kinds of countries anyway. The ones you worry about are rogue states who sign or don’t sign and break the rules willy-nilly with impunity. We see that with nuclear weapons with Iran and North Korea having trashed the [NPT] treaty over and over again.
It [a UN treaty like this] doesn’t have any effect. The only effect it has is restricting the civilized, the good guys in the world.
The Iranians are now of one of the 15 principal regional countries involved in this [treaty]. This is Iran that ships weapons to Hezbollah, to Hamas, to Islamist Jihad, to bad guys in Afghanistan, who are killing our soldiers, and who now have planeloads of weapons, which go to Syria under the pretense of being “cut flowers.”
Does anybody have any… idea that this will affect what Iran does? The treaties are useless. All they will do is put inspectors on our planes, our trains, and our ships and do nothing about illegal, illicit weapons going from bad guys to other bad guys in the world.
