“We can’t take time out. We can’t say there are no strategic stakes in Syria. There are strategic stakes in Syria….There is no doubt he [Bashar] is going to go, but before he falls, my fear is, and what a lot of people who know Syria will tell you, he is going to destroy the assets of the Syrian state, he is going to poison the well completely between the alleyways, he is going to make it very difficult for his community to find a place in a post-Bashar Syria. So we can’t take a holiday from history.”
