Cantor on Carter

by Daniel Foster

Responding to news that former president Jimmy Carter will give a prime-time address, via video, to the Democratic National Convention, House majority leader Eric Cantor (R., Va.) tells NRO he’s less than enthused about Democrats giving the harsh critic of Israel a coveted spot.

“Jimmy Carter’s views on Israel are troubling,” said Cantor. “Carter has repeatedly expressed offensive and incendiary views about Israel. What sort of message does President Obama wish to send by inviting to the Democratic Convention someone who has characterized Israel as an ‘apartheid’ state?”

For its part, a DNC press release announcing the speech says President Carter will offer “unique insights about President Obama as a global leader.”
