And So It Begins

The coordinated Axelrod-Media Matters-MSM attack, I mean. From ABC News, headlined “Five Things Mitt Doesn’t Want You to Know About Paul Ryan”:

Ryan is an exciting pick, but there’s no such thing as a perfect candidate, and Ryan brings his own set of political risks to the table. Here’s a list of five things that Mitt Romney might not want highlighted about his VP candidate (hint: most of them have to do with his budget proposals).

There follows the usual Romneyhood/Mediscare boilerplate, an early warning shot over Ryan’s “hypocrisy” in voting for big-government programs like TARP, the observation that he’s a “Washington insider,” and that he’s more socially liberal than the older generation of Republicans. That’s it.

As I’ve made plain here, I’m a big Ryan fan for lots of reasons, not the least of which is that he has no fear of Barack Obama and will take the fight right to him. He hasn’t forgotten the typically classless sandbagging Obama gave him last year, and that payback’s going to be fun to watch as the two go toe to toe.

In short, a great choice and the fact that Michael Tomasky is already both sneering and screeching about it tells you all you need to know. Hey — maybe Mitt should have taken Jake Lingle’s advice and picked Tim Pawlenty!

Praise the Lord and pass the popcorn.
