I know I’m preachin’ to the choir here, but — well, the choir sometimes likes it, and so does the preacher. Okay, here I go: During the Republican primaries, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon introduced Congresswoman Michele Bachmann with a song called “Lyin’ A** B****.” More recently, CNN introduced a segment about Sarah Palin with a song called “Stupid Girls.” We are told that these are aberrations or accidents. But have you noticed they don’t happen to left-wing women? Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Barbara Boxer?
Say Fox News introduced one of them with such a song. Don’t you think it would be kind of a big deal in the media? Covers of Time and Newsweek, the subject of NPR commentary for a month? The impetus for teach-ins coast to coast against hate? The occasion of at least one prime-time Obama speech?
As Bob Dole often said in the ’96 campaign, you know it, I know it, and the American people know it. (Well, at least you and I know it.)
