Changes from 2008 to 2012 in Democratic National Committee platform expose the truth in the Democrats’ treatment of Israel:
In 2008, the Democrats insisted that, “Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.” Now, that promise is gone. The 2012 platform contains no mention at all of Jerusalem, further highlighting the administration’s recent refusal to support Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Furthermore, in 2008, the Democrats assured Israel that “all understand that it is unrealistic to expect the outcome of final status negotiations to be a full and complete return to the armistice lines of 1949.” However, perhaps emulating President Obama’s call for the usage of the pre-1967 lines as the foundation for the creation of a Palestinian state, the 2012 platform has similarly excised the previous commitment to defensible Israeli borders. But don’t worry, even in 2012, the platform boldly asserts, “President Obama and the Democratic Party maintain an unshakable commitment to Israel’s security.”
