The author of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell got a hall full of Democrats to whoop and holler for the balanced budgets and welfare-reform policies of Newt Gingrich, and even got a cheer for George W. Bush, in a speech considerably longer than the ’88 convention oration that at the time earned him widespread scorn.
He’s a smooth operator.
