Soldier Suicides: Are They All about PTSD?

Text

After reading this Robert Morgenthau piece in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal, I’ve put together some extended thoughts on the tragedy of soldier suicide. For those who don’t have the time to wade through 1,400 words, the role of broken families must be considered — military families often begin unstable and grow less stable through extended deployments. Every single actual or attempted soldier suicide I’ve personally known about was immediately precipitated by trouble at home. Every single one. Further, we simply can’t rely on a military bureaucracy to heal or repair the human heart.

Please read the whole thing and leave a comment with your own thoughts.
