Romney: Real Compassion Is Helping People Find Jobs

by Katrina Trinko

In a new ad, Mitt Romney talks about how his policies can help Americans struggling economically. “President Obama and I both care about poor and middle-class families,” he says in the spot. “The difference is my policies will make things better for them. We shouldn’t measure compassion by how many people are on welfare. We should measure compassion by how many people are able to get off welfare and get a good paying job. My plan will create 12 million new jobs over the next four years—helping lift families out of poverty and strengthening the middle class.”

Let’s hope this ad is widely aired. It’s a good message — amid all the discussion over his comments about the 47 percent who don’t pay income taxes — that echoes the conservative belief that the right policies can help people rise out of poverty.
