The Corner

The one and only.

Hate to Rain on Everyone’s Parade . . .

I agree with the vast majority of observers on NRO and elsewhere that Mitt Romney was very impressive last night. He was aggressive, hard hitting, and displayed an excellent command of the facts and issues. President Obama appeared defensive and at times disengaged. He seemed to regard much of the debate as a tiresome chore.

That having been said, many people thought that John Kerry’s performance in the first presidential debate of the 2004 election cycle was impressive as well.  President Bush seemed tired and frustrated and, in the eyes of many, failed to defend his foreign-policy decisions as well as he could have. Still President Bush was able to bounce back, perform better in the subsequent debates, and went on to win reelection.

I am not trying to diminish anyone’s enthusiasm. I am just gently reminding Romney supporters that even with Romney’s strong performance tonight, there is still a lot of work to be done between now and Election Day.
