In recent speeches, Vice President Biden has picked up on a theme: “Joey.”

“Joey” is the name by which Biden’s parents addressed him as a child, before — with phenomenal foresight — they gave him convenient ten-second soundbites, perfect for a presidential campaign in a media age. In my mind’s ear, however, the word “Joey” followed by a pause is the overture to something else. This afternoon, I put them together:
