Oil Production Clearly Down 14 Percent under Federal Leases
President Obama denies it, but his own Department of Energy’s most recent report on fossil fuel production under federal leases (federal land and offshore) clearly shows that total oil production dropped from 2010 to 2011 by a significant amount. How much? Table 2 in the report shows that (if you take out a slight increase on Indian lands) offshore and federal onshore oil production dropped from 726 million barrels in 2010 to 626 million barrels in 2011. That’s a drop of 100 million barrels, or 14 percent.
