Romney did a great job in this segment — emphasizing American leadership and the importance of a strong economy for a strong defense. Interesting diversion into domestic issues, which bodes well for Romney. Romney did a good job explaining the need for defense spending (“I won’t cut the U.S. military budget by $1 trillion”). Obama’s claim that DoD doesn’t want additional spending is not true — they were forced to submit cuts, many of which had nothing to do with strategic needs.
Obama’s worse moment: Apparently ships are obsolete, and — news flash — we have ships that go underwater. He compared ships to horses and bayonets — are you kidding me?
