Fourth Segment: Afghanistan (short and sweet)

by Pete Hegseth

It’s painful that the 2014 deadline for Afghanistan is now a consensus. The withdrawal deadline is nothing but a strategic detriment, but both candidates (most recently, Romney) seem to think it’s a political necessity. The future in Afghanistan, unfortunately, is not bright. The war is tough, complicated, and difficult. Nobody wants to be there indefinitely, but leaving on a deadline, ignoring realities on the ground, guarantees a bad outcome (and means my two-year-old son might be there cleaning up the mess we are unwilling to finish).

As for the president’s “nation building here at home” line — it’s a good political line, but doesn’t comport with this economic record. When does the nation-building start here at home, Mr. President?
