Virginia Gets One Thing Right

by Betsy Woodruff

In a victory for people who don’t like the government randomly taking away their stuff, Virginians voted yesterday to enshrine property rights in their state constitution. The push for the amendment was a response to the Supreme Court’s controversial Kelo v. City of New London decision, which lets the government take control of private property just to increase its tax revenues. Virginians overwhelmingly supported the change, which passed with nearly 75 percent of the vote.
