Report Finds Record Demand for Charter Schools

by Jillian Kay Melchior

If the votes for school choice in Georgia and Washington weren’t enough, here’s further proof that parents want education options for their children.

Last year saw a 13 percent increase in charter-school enrollment over the previous year, according to a new report by the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. That’s more than 200,000 new charter-school students in the last year alone. Additionally, more than 610,000 children nationwide are on wait lists to attend charter schools.

The report also notes that “today, demand for public charter schools is at an all-time high.” Sounds like a mandate to me.
