Basically the rightwing nationalists lost ground, and the leftwing nationalists gained ground. Together they could move the march to independence along (or try to: the obstacles are formidable), but no one seems very confident that these two groups can work together.
Open Europe has a typically good summary of the legal and political issues involved here, and has the honesty to admit that there is a great deal that is “not clear”.
Put it like this. Catalonian independence is probably closer than it was, but remains a long way off, and Spanish (and Catalan) politics just got a whole lot more complicated.
