Want to Be a Successful Writer? Be a Man.
Just so there’s no misunderstanding here: I am not joining in the mass piling-on against Lena Dunham’s book contract. I enjoyed her movie Tiny Furniture very much; I think her tweets are generally charming; and, while I have not seen her TV show, Girls, I will soon be checking it out on DVD, on the recommendation of some younger conservatives I know. So I don’t begrudge her the book contract; but it does somewhat undermine the notion that the literary deck is brutally stacked against women writers.
