In case you haven’t heard, Patrick Moran, the son of Representative Jim Moran (D., Va.) heretofore most infamous for shooting the breeze on voter fraud in a James O’Keefe sting op, has pled guilty to assault after allegedly smashing his girlfriend’s face into a metal trash gate outside a D.C. nightclub, fracturing her skull.
Young Patrick was allowed to plea down from a felony charge and will receive probation. Call me old fashioned, but when you’ve compromised the integrity of a woman’s skull, I think you should be issued a jumpsuit and some soap on a rope. But — if it’s possible — that’s not even the worst part. The worst part is the spin coming out of Moran the elder’s shop.
“The situation was an accident,” Moran spokeswoman Anne Hughes writes in an email, adding that both Moran and his girlfriend testified to that in court. “Patrick didn’t hit or shove her.”
Hughes claims that only Patrick Moran and his girlfriend were around to see the alleged attack. “They were the only two people who witnessed the scene,” writes Hughes. “In that sense, their statements are the only ones that matter.”
Of course, that stands in stark contrast to a signed police report in which a DC Metro cop and another eyewitness say they saw Moran “grab a white female by the back of her head with his hand and slam her head into the metal trash can cage” causing her to “bleed heavily from her nose.”
Maybe Ms. Hughes knew what she was signing up for with Representative Moran, who has a history of getting physical himself. But I bet she still found herself at some point today standing in front of a ladies room mirror in the Rayburn Building and asking herself if it was really all worth it.
