‘Act on Mental Illness’

I tried to write this column today on Newtown and mental illness with a sense of modesty. It may well be that no reasonably feasible public policy could have made a difference, short of having the equivalent of air marshals at the schools, which is where I think we’re headed. But I think it’s important to focus on mental illness because even if reforms don’t stop future shootings (and they might), they could certainly help many sick and vulnerable people.
