Washington Post: Hagel’s a Bad Choice

Moments ago, the Washington Post published an editorial voicing its opposition to the potential nomination of Chuck Hagel as defense secretary. Hagel, says the Post, holds foreign policy views that place him “near the fringe of the Senate that would be asked to confirm him,” and, though he is a Republican, his pertinent views are “well to the left of those pursued by Mr. Obama during his first term.”

The Post urges Obama to consider former undersecretary of defense Michele Flournoy, “a seasoned policymaker who understands how to manage the Pentagon bureaucracy and where responsible cuts can be made.”
