So, Dan and Betsy, you’re telling me that politicians are absolutely losing their minds over a slightly-delayed vote that will add tens of billions of dollars in new spending — when that spending won’t bring immediate aid to hurricane victims? I fear that if our political class can’t even tolerate the slightest breather before approving expenditures of that magnitude, then we just might be doomed. But then again, I’m a Calvinist, and thus a world-champion cynic about human nature. Perhaps I’m wrong, and this will be our last hastily-approved, gigantic “emergency” spending spree, and we’ll start our belt tightening — tomorrow.
