Some people are talking up the idea of minting $1 trillion platinum coins as a way the administration can sidestep the debt ceiling and the necessity of dealing with Republicans on spending to get it raised. Economist Josh Hendrickson argues that this course of action could be very inflationary. Former U.S. Mint director Edmund Moy says the idea can’t be made to work legally.
