MSNBC Ignores Nearly 170K Drop in Workforce in January

by Andrew Johnson

Following the release of the January jobs report, CNBC’s Brian Sullivan came on MSNBC’s Morning Joe and told the hosts that the higher unemployment rate was a good sign because there are more people looking for work again. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics report though, that’s not the case: Americans no longer in the workforce — meaning those unemployed and no longer looking for work — increased by 169,000 last month, going from a total of 88.8 million in December to 89 million in January.
