Who’s the Next Pope?

On MSNBC, George Weigel cut to the core of not just what the future holds but what the Catholic Church is about:

What the cardinals are looking for, I expect, is someone who would put a positive face on the Catholic Church, who will be able to be a missionary pope, who will make clear that every time the Church says ‘no’ to something it’s on the basis on a higher and compelling ‘yes’ to something else. The Catholic Church is in the business of affirming the dignity of the human person under very difficult cultural circumstances and the next pope is going to have to be able to take up that mantle from John Paul II and Benedict XVI.
