Sharpton Compares Current U.S. Voting Practices to Apartheid South Africa

Text

During MSNBC’s post–State of the Union coverage, the Reverend Al Sharpton compared the current state of American voting processes to apartheid South Africa. Referencing the attendance of 102-year-old Desiline Victor, who was invited by the First Lady because of her story of waiting hours in line to vote, Sharpton said: “Here’s a woman that stood at 102 years old, and when he talked about [her], people applauded when she finally put on her lapel [saying] ‘I have voted.’ I mean, this shouldn’t happen in America; this sounds like pre-1994 South Africa.”
