Finke: First Lady’s Oscars Cameo Was ‘Attempt to Infuriate Right-Leaning Audiences’

Nikki Finke, founder and editor of entertainment website Deadline Hollywood was among the first to be critical of First Lady Michelle Obama’s appearance at last night’s Oscars to announce the winner of Best Picture, calling it “unnecessary and inappropriate.”

“I don’t understand this very obvious attempt to infuriate right-leaning audiences,” Finke wrote while live-blogging the Academy Awards on Sunday night. “Clearly the studios only want to sell their movies to only half of America.”

She added that the Academy and Hollywood “actually fans the fire” by “inject[ing] so much politics” into the awards shows. Earlier this year, Bill Clinton made an appearance at the Golden Globes to introduce Lincoln.
