Krugman: Choosing Waterboarding over Drone Killings ‘a Very Odd Notion’

by Andrew Johnson

New York Times columnist Paul Krugman offered his take on the subject of Rand Paul’s filibuster on ABC’s This Week, suggesting that those who oppose drone strikes but approve of waterboarding have “a very very strange position.” Although he admitted that some Democrats are uneasy with the policy on drones, he took issue with those who okay using waterboarding but not drones: “That suggests to me that a lot of people that were a part of this filibuster have a very odd notion of what is right and what is wrong in presidential policy.”

Last month, South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham estimated that 4,700 people had been killed by drones. By contrast, three detainees have been waterboarded.
