Intrade Shut Down

by Nathaniel Botwinick

How ever will we know who will win the 2016 presidential election? The Dublin-based online prediction market Intrade ceased trading this weekend in response to financial irregularities that forced them to shut down in accordance with Irish law. After the Commodity Futures Trading Commission ruled in November that the company violated U.S. trading laws, it was no longer legal to bet on Intrade in the United States. But in case you had found a way around that restriction, hopefully you already cashed out, as Intrade has frozen all of its accounts pending an investigation.
