House Republican: Obama Visit 'Mostly for the Camera'
Representative Raul Labrador of Idaho, a tea-party favorite, doubts that today’s meeting on Capitol Hill between House Republicans and President Obama suggests that the president is sincere in his outreach efforts.
Labrador dismissed the event as “mostly for the cameras,” and described his expectations of the meeting as “neutral.”
“It’s interesting that tonight he’s going to go from here . . . to a campaign event where he’s going to talk about how he’s going to destroy the Republican party,” Labrador told NRO, referencing the president’s planned Wednesday stop at Organizing for America. Saying that sends a “mixed message” to Americans, Labrador added, “if he takes a different tone tonight — not here but at the campaign event — then maybe I will have higher expectations.”
