The Birther Movement’s Bipartisanship

by Eliana Johnson

Over on the homepage, I write about the birther movement’s latest target, GOP senator Ted Cruz, who was born in Canada. Good news for Cruz watchers hoping he’ll make a run for the presidency: The consensus among legal scholars is that, because Cruz was a citizen at birth — his mother was born and raised in Delaware — he meets the constitutional requirement that the U.S. president be a “natural born citizen.”
