U.S. Ambassador Apologizes to Morsi for Jon Stewart Tweet

by Andrew Johnson

According to Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi’s official Twitter account, the U.S. ambassador to the country has apologized for tweeting a link to a video of Comedy Central host Jon Stewart criticizing Morsi.

On his show earlier this week, Stewart mocked Morsi for his heavy-handedness in interrogating an Egyptian comedian for making jokes about Morsi and Islam. The U.S. embassy shared The Daily Show video the next day on its official Twitter account, prompting the Egyptian government to call it “inappropriate” and “negative political propaganda.”
