Krauthammer’s Take: ‘Screamingly Obviously’ We Need to Increase Retirement Age

Charles Krauthammer praised President Obama for tying social security benefits to chained CPI. “It’s the first time he’s put on the table one structural change” to entitlements, he said. The problem with the president’s budget proposal, due out Wednesday, is that there are no additional entitlement reforms — most importantly, an increase in the retirement age, which Krauthammer argued is a “screamingly obvious” change we must make.
“It isn’t yet clear if the president is really serious about entitlement reform,” Krauthammer concluded, “I think not, but at least he’s got the easiest step out there, let’s see if he takes the others.”
