Senator Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) told the Morning Joe panel that he “can’t understand” why his background-check bill doesn’t have the votes it needs to pass. “If we just had 20 percent of our Republican colleagues . . . that’s nine members, this thing would be home,” Manchin said.
Manchin also thanked Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for their efforts in the gun-control debate: ”You all have done everything you can, I appreciate it much.” Joe Biden thanked Scarborough for his efforts as well last week, and Manchin thanked CNN anchors last week.
Chuck Todd reported on The Daily Rundown that NBC News expects the bill to fail by four or five votes, and could lose more as it proves unsuccessful. Todd also tweeted that Manchin has privately told people that he doesn’t expect background checks to pass.
