The Corner

The one and only.

On the Run

Last week was not simply a terrible week for President Obama, who lost badly on “gun control,” embarrassed himself and his party with his petulant performance after that vote, and then was utterly marginalized by the events in Boston and in Texas, climaxing with Friday’s shootout in the streets of Watertown and the lockdown of parts of greater Boston.

It was also a bracing and sobering reminder that Fate often steps in when men least expect it, dramatically shifting the narrative with brute force. As the Player King says in Hamlet, “Our wills and fates do so contrary run / That our devices still are overthrown; / Our thoughts are ours, their ends none of our own.”
