Boston Police Chief: Drones ‘Great Idea’ at Next Year’s Marathon

Following last week’s attack, Boston police commissioner Ed Davis said that he would like to see the city better equipped for next year’s marathon. “We need to make sure terrorists understand that if they’re thinking about coming here, we have certain things in place that would make that not a good idea,” he told the Boston Herald.

Davis pushed for implementing lower-mounted cameras with better face-recognition capabilities and for using surveillance drones at some point as well. “Drones are a great idea,” he said. ”I don’t know that would be the first place I’d invest money, but certainly to cover an event like this, and have an eye in the sky that would be much cheaper to run than a helicopter is a really good idea.”

Davis said he has no cost estimate for any of these proposed measures and is just speculating about ways to enhance security.
