NRA Breaks 5 Million Members

Text

I wrote last week about the problem that anti-gun types face:

Gun controllers seem to face a genuine, perhaps intractable, quandary: In order to have a shot at changing the rules, they must speak in urgent and emotional terms, and they must try to rush legislation through before reason can intrude on the debate. But it is this very emotional urgency that scares people into buying guns, turning the restrictionist into the salesman.

And, it seems, turning citizens into NRA members. Today, Wayne LaPierre announced that his outfit now boasts 5 million members, up from an advertised 4.5 million at the beginning of the year. (There were around 3.6 million members at the turn of the milennium.)
