Bachmann Won’t Seek Reelection in 2014

Four-term representative Michele Bachmann announced this morning that she will not seek reelection in Minnesota’s sixth congressional district in 2014. In a video sent to supporters overnight, Bachmann assured them that her decision was not influenced by a potentially tough rematch with her 2012 opponent, Jim Graves (whom she beat by just 1.2 percentage points), or an investigation into her presidential campaign last year. She gave no formal reason for stepping down other than that her eight years is “long enough for an individual to serve as representative for a specific congressional district.”

But she didn’t rule out a return to politics in the future. “I want you to be assured that there is no future option or opportunity, be it directly in the political arena or otherwise, that I won’t be giving serious consideration, if it can help save and protect our great nation for future generations,” Bachmann said.
