Reid: ‘We Have 60 Votes’ on Immigration Bill

Text

The Senate’s immigration-reform bill will go to the House and it “should be pretty easy,” according to Harry Reid’s math.

“I think we have 60 votes. Remember, we start out at 55 Democrats,” Reid said on Nevada’s public-affairs show, To the Point.

He added that he expects to lose two or three Democrats when he brings it up for a vote. But it “should be pretty easy,” he explained: “I only need eight Republicans, and I already have four,” referring to the Republican members of the Gang of Eight. (Or, as Chuck Schumer likes to call them, “our Republicans.”)

Last week, fellow Democratic senator Bob Menendez expressed doubt that the bill had the 60 votes to overcome a filibuster.
