Andrew Cuomo Would Veto His Own Bill

by Kathryn Jean Lopez

New York governor Andrew Cuomo is adamant his abortion expansion be included in his “Women’s Equity Act.” He’s announced that there is no compromise on his legislation, that all ten points negotiated behind closed Albany doors be included, or he will veto his own bill, an agenda he’s been insistent on since January.

The Republican leader of the senate, Dean Skelos, deserves thanks for refusing the bring the absurd item to the floor as Democrats try to shame members into insisting the “reproductive rights” measure be brought to the floor and become law. Legal abortion is in any way in danger in the state of New York. And the last thing New York needs is more abortion. Passing it would be a miserable thing to do to give Andrew Cuomo a Democractic primary advantage in 2016
