Reid Warns of Weekend Vote-a-Rama

Text

Majority leader Harry Reid said the floor fight on the Gang of Eight immigration bill could be headed to a series of marathon weekend votes to finish the bill before the July 4 recess. Today, he suspended the debate on the bill until Monday, citing the pending “derecho” storm and meetings senators are holding, including one at the White House today.

Meanwhile, Senator Chuck Grassley’s border-security amendment was tabled with the help of the Republican members of the Gang, including Senator Marco Rubio (the amendment would have required the secretary of homeland security to certify the border had been secured for six months prior to the legalization of millions of immigrants).
