GOP Rep.: Pelosi Keeps Forcing Dems to ‘Backtrack’ on Immigration Agreements

by Andrew Johnson

“I think the problem we’re running into is Nancy Pelosi. I’m not quite sure she wants a bill,” a Republican congressman said of the House’s immigration negotiations. Representative Mario Diaz-Balart, a member of the House’s “Group of Eight,” said his Democratic colleagues have reneged on at least two agreements because of Pelosi.

“I don’t think it’s the folks I’m negotiating with,” the Florida congressman said on MSNBC this morning. “We’ve had two agreements on that issue and both times the folks that I’m negotiating with have had to backtrack on their agreement.”

“That’s not coming from them, that’s coming from, frankly, a higher pay grade,” he added.

Diaz-Balart’s suspicions are similar to comments made by Texas senator Ted Cruz. Cruz has argued that Democrats, particularly President Obama, want immigration reform to fail in order to blame it on Republicans.
